# Run your app on your own computer

> Download your app's code and run it locally, with a local database and your app's real sign-in.

The **Download code** button in the Code tab gives you a zip that is ready to
run. Open `RUN-LOCALLY.md` inside it for the exact steps for your app.

## What the zip adds

| `.env.local` | every setting your app reads. The ones that are not secret are filled in; the rest are listed with a `#` in front, so your app's own defaults apply until you set them |
| `.env.example` | the names of those settings, when your app has no such file |
| `local-db.compose.yml` | a database on your computer, when your app keeps data. Needs Docker |

None of these files holds a password or a key.

The steps follow how your app builds its database: its own `db:migrate`
script, Prisma or Drizzle. If Creator cannot tell, the steps say so, and you
create the tables with your app's own tool before starting it.

## Why your live data is not included

Your app's cloud database is private to the cloud, and it holds your users'
data. It is never reachable from a laptop, and the zip never contains its
address or password.
